Gastronomy is defined as the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food and is usually associated with a particular area, as in the social influences of the area. Usually gastronomy is used to define many elements, ranging from fine dining experience to specific workings on food. Gastronomy in the context of culture, represents the understanding of how humans have influenced food practices in a place or alternatively, how a place has introduced food practices. These form of influences are interesting in understanding the culture of the place. The purpose of this research is to understand the tourism impact of the gastronomy of a place -Victoria, Australia based on both primary and research data.
The data collected for this research essay was done by both primary and secondary styles of data collection. In the primary style, data was collected directly from the phenomenon under observation. The author took trips to the important food sites that have an impact on local culture in order to understand how they could have a positive impact on tourism as well. Two main locations were visited. Primarily a specialty product store and a fine wine retail seller were selected for this purpose. The specialty product store is Tokyoteppanyaki which is located at 536, Chapel Street, South Yarra, Victoria 3141. The wine retail seller is Rathdowne cellars which is located at 348 Rathdowne St, Carlton North VIC 3054, Australia. Other than the primary information, secondary information was also collected in the form of existing research evidence on the subject of gastronomy, history of gastronomy in Victoria and how it has an impact on tourism.
