Focusing on patient care of end of life, there is variation in quality of care within hospice programs as well. There are several methods enhancing quality in the end of life patients and it is required to know more about the types of quality improvement interventions that help patient’s palliative care quality to improve further.
Rapid critical appraisal of Randomized controlled trials (RCT) is another essential skill for evidence-based practice. With respect to such appraisal of an RCT, Mazurek Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2005) have developed a checklist that seems to be very helpful. After conducting a critical appraisal and backing the practice by several rigorous evidences, practice must be weighed against different criteria such as clinical support, theoretical soundness, and potential for harm, empirical support and documentation. However, clinician’s individual knowledge and expertise is given more value and weight in the absence of rigorous evidence. Generally, evidence is ranked according to its scientific strength, concern with patient care and improvement in the quality of patient’s life (Geddes, 1999 and Roberts & Yeager, 2004).
