There was an influence of western technological and futuristic architecture in social, political and economic sectors of the life of the characters. During the times of 1940s-1950s, the basic concept of architecture which was fuelling in the Modernism period was rejected. The people were getting influenced from the west and the western styles. In order to solve the problems of urban planning during these times were inspired by some of the theories of the west. These theories included the Buckminister Fuller and the popular culture (Ross, 1978). They also planned to create a society which was made from the massive structures which were known as the mega structures. These mega-structures were expandable in general. The structures which were constructed during those times consisted of some of the smaller and detachable sections or cells within a larger and the permanent structures. The structures during this time also eliminated the idea related to the single building. Another influence of the west was observed in the kind of buildings which were made during those times. The people in these buildings had enough freedom to move about the larger structure as well where they moved the smaller cells whenever they wanted to and however they wanted to.
These ideas were influenced from the west and were gaining popularity in Japan. This was because the people wanted the ideas in which they can reconstruct quickly and cheaply for the population which was increasing each and every day.
Before this period, Japanese had never experienced any influence from the Western part of the world. But now the things were changing. A major influence from west was observed when the World Design Conference was held in 1960 in Tokyo for the purpose of discussion related to the universal design. It was in this conference that the discussion related to the Western architecture and the implementation of the same with the Japanese architecture was done. The meeting consisted of some of the best architectures in the world including Takashi ASADA, Kiyoshi Awazu, Kenji Ekuan. These were some of the artists who were motivated because of the ideas which were given by the Western Utopian Mega structural architecture. The group was also influenced by the thought of Le Corbusian. There were many great architects who were inspired from the western architecture. This was the reason for the influence of west in the architecture of Metabolism period (Karakiewicz, 2005).
