Subsequently, the Federal Trade Commission in United States sued Intel for using its monopoly to eliminate competition through illegal tactics. In 2010, a settlement was made under which Intel accepted its guilt and was ordered to give up its below mentioned monopolization tactics.Further investigation reports revealed that Intel had modified software programs resulting in their decreased performance on computers supporting AMD microprocessors. It found that Intel was using the rebate payments to ban companies from choosing AMD as their supplier. Dell Inc. was said to be an example of leading computer manufacturer company that exclusively used Intel products in view of its regular rebate payments, despite the fact that Dell customers preferred AMD. All of Dell’s complains were stifled under Intel’s quarterly rebate payments of up to $300 million which helped cover any costs of its decreased sales. Dell remained loyal to Intel despite the increase in popularity of other computer systems with AMD microprocessors. In years after 2006, Dell finally decided to launch new products with AMD processors as a result of which Intel’s rebate payments started decreasing in amount after which the payments stopped completely.
