The methodology employed for the study is quite elaborate and covers a large number of factors which have an influence on the performance of the companies in New Zealand. Further due consideration has been given to private, public and not-for-profit organizations. Apart from this employing both qualitative and quantitative approach is quite beneficial as it enables better understanding of the respondents. Lastly a diversified group was targeted for the study and the respondents were not from single industry or sector.
The biggest weakness for the study is that at times it appeared that the focus is not on discussing the importance and impact of developing the management skills. For example, the factors that have been highlighted are market risk, engaging effective dialogue with shareholders, gaining access to finance, identifying profitable opportunities etc. All these factors are indirectly related to management skills. Thus although the focus of the study is on the development of the management skills, the content of the methodology employed is not correctly designed.
