The class activities in the last week include 3 games – menu game, marshmallow challenge and murder mystery. All the games enriched my communication skills and leadership abilities to apply in the future when I head a commercial kitchen. The first area of learning is communication. In all the games, I had to communicate and give my opinions as a person and also as a representative of my team. In the murder mystery activity, I faced an issue due to language barriers of others in the team. In the menu activity, I realized that communication is the priority while handling time or change or less motivated staffs.
In the commercial kitchen that I will handle, there is likelihood for people from varied cultural and language backgrounds to coordinate and interact with the customers. In such a case, there is a need for conflict management and leadership to communicate effectively. Every person would have different opinions, but it the manager’s responsibility to choose the ideal one and make decisions.
In all the three class activities, group dynamics and role allocations played major roles. I learnt that I am responsible as a manager when there is a need to manage time and motivate internal resources to deliver the desired outcomes to the customers. I observed in menu game that people do not have the same priorities. Now, the manager has to evaluate the priority and present a better and convincing picture to the members. Marshmallow activity gave me a different perspective about group dynamics.
