Thus buying products with the Fair Trade mark also sustains fashion (Minney et al., 2011).
Transparency when used by the companies lets the customers know more about the whereabouts of the processes used by the companies in making the products that it is selling. Companies like ‘Patagonia and Everlane’ tend to provide a great detail about how the materials used are procured and at the same time how the garments sold are made. This kind of radical transparency when used by the companies tends to lend a helping hand in sustaining fashion because such companies tend to keep environmentalism in mind when producing garments.
Local buying is another way of sustaining the fashion which is on-going. When one buys garments and accessories from the local market and when the products are what have been produced locally, it tends to cut down on the transportation costs which are used otherwise on the garments that not brought from the outside and are not produced locally. This sustains the fashion in a way that it boosts the local fashion industry and helps the fashion industry by connecting it with the community.
Recycling is a term which is heard and used by all but it has often been avoided that recycling of materials in the textiles and fashion industries can reduce the costs and also lead to sustainable fashion. Some of the companies are undertaking environmentally friendly projects where the materials which are used to make garments are being derived out of milk, tea and coffee, and also birch tea. Also the non-biodegradable substances are now being used to spin yarns of polyester which is also sustaining fashion directly. Besides cotton and wool are materials thatcan be recycled and re-spun (Ricchetti and Frisa, 2012).
