Humans are rational animals largely due to their divine gift of reasoning, expressiveness, and contemplation. These attributes, without doubt, stamps them as being rational beings that are responsible and liable to act rationally. Food and eating are the fundamental requirement of all animals, including non-human animals. Non-human animals or animals are unable to express their happiness and suffering through speech, but equally possess the divine gift of reasoning, expressed through their actions. Humans eating animals is both supported and criticised by world communities, and they come to varied interpretations and conclusions. Eating animals seem natural for animal eaters, but is equally or consciously rejected and criticised by vegetarians. This debate seems endless, as both kinds of people live in civilisations, and would not come to a shared conclusion, until a great catastrophe strikes both them and demands a radical change in their attitude and practice of eating and avoiding eating animals.
This essay argues that the double standard of humans in treating themselves, other humans, and non-human animals is ethically unjustified. There is no rationality in humans desiring to eat other humans or animals resulting from their natural condition of hunger. Double standards of treating humans and animals in different ways for personal benefits are the most irrational act that a so-called rational human can commit.
