Implicit leadership theory
Implicit leadership theory states that leadership is basically inference based, regnition based. Inference based leadership forms opinion from the analysis of the salient events of the team. Recognition based performance rely on the fit between observer and one’s personal theory.
Applying this theory on the company, it can be said that there are many kinds of leadership that are practices. Companies develop their leadership style based on their innate objectives.
Functionally, strong teams in a company will work together for the same objective. For the management of the teams, there should be fundamental understanding of the different kinds of teams in the company (Canton-Thompson, et al 2008). They are manager led teams, cross functional teams, self-managing teams, self directing and self governing teams. In this case of manager led teams, the manager allocates task and is very structured. There is no real autonomy for the employee unless the manager of the specific teams finds ways for the employee to voice their opinion. Cross functional teams are able to work in a hybrid environment where the teams function on an ad hoc basis with one another. Self-managed teams are teams where each employee of the team has autonomy and works together to reach their goals. The company allows them to function without their oversight in this process. Virtual teams were the people from different geographical locations working together in cohesion to meet the requirements. Quality circles are a special class of teams, where small groups of people strive towards reaching a common purpose in this team, there is high level of quality. All the members of the quality circle ensure that each member of the team maintains the quality that is required. Based on the subjective requirements, it can be found that in reality there is a hybrid kind of teams that are formed. This is usually formed from the best practices of the organization (Watt, 2003).
