Eating disorders are complex disorders that are found to be influenced by a combination of factors. The exact root causes of the eating disorders are not known. It is a combination of a number of factors which includes biological and environmental abnormalities.
For the biological factors, these can include hormone, genetics and nutritional deficiencies. The psychological factors include body images and poor self-esteem. Some of the other factors involve dysfunctional family dynamics.
It is found to vary based on the subjective nature of the situation . Hence, there is varying level of treatments provided to the patient based on this factor. These include therapy, counselling, residential treatment and hospital treatment. There are many kinds of therapy options that are provided to the patients these include psychological therapy and family therapy.
There is a need for early intervention programs to address this issue. The current research and operational process favors treatment only when the disease is found to be progressed significantly. There is a considerable gap in literature regarding the early intervention treatment. This needs to be probed in more detail to address the issues.
